How to Become A SkyWest First Officer

Step 1

Enroll into Wayman

Join Wayman’s Airline Pathway Program and get your Private Pilot license, Instrument Rating, Commercial Single, and Flight Instructor Ratings.

Step 2

Become a Flight Instructor at Wayman

Apply for a position as a full-time flight instructor. Receive rigorous airline-oriented training and build flight hours.

Step 3

Apply to the SkyWest Pilot Pathway Program with 250hrs

After joining, participants can take part in SkyWest recruiting events and outreach programs, paving the way to a fulfilling commercial pilot career.

Step 4

Guaranteed Interview for a SkyWest First Officer Position

After achieving 1,500 hours (or 1,250 hours with R-ATP) and fulfilling all training criteria, you will be employed by SkyWest as a First Officer.


  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and be at least 18 years of age.
  • Be a U.S. citizen or able to show proof of right to work in the U.S.
  • May not have more than two check ride failures
  • Most actively update flight hours, 1x per month, through your skywest online portal to stay enrolled in the program
