Shortages across the airline industry are causing subtle and overt changes to the U.S. travel system. Major airlines such as Fort Worth-based American Airlines are relying less on regional partners, cancellations are up and so are delays.

 

 


3. Delta pilots open voting for strike authorization as contract negotiations falter

Pilots at Delta Air Lines Inc (DAL.N) on Friday opened voting for authorizing a strike, saying negotiations with the U.S. airline for a new contract had failed to produce an “industry-leading” agreement.

 

 

4. In Light of Pilot Shortage, Chairs Maloney and Clyburn Request Treasury Inspector General Review Airlines’ Use of Pandemic Relief Funds

Rep. Carolyn B. Maloney, Chairwoman of the Committee on Oversight and Reform, and Rep. James E. Clyburn, Chairman of the Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Crisis, sent a letter to Mr. Richard K. Delmar, Deputy Inspector General of the Department of the Treasury, requesting a thorough review of the federal funding Treasury disbursed to airlines to sustain their operations during the coronavirus pandemic, including whether any funds were used for buyouts or staff reductions.

6. Russian Official Suggests Pilots Should Learn To Repair Aircraft

According to Oleg Bocharov, deputy minister of the Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade, pilots should learn not only how to fly planes but also how to repair them and act as mechanics. Bocharov made these statements during the Eastern Economic Forum, adding that Russian pilots should be “universal soldiers.”

 

 

7. Texas students go from high school to flight school, taking off with pilot careers amid industry shortage

While major airlines and commercial pilots themselves have signaled a growing pilot shortage could greatly impact the aviation industry in coming years, one Texas high school is offering a solution. Rising Aviation High located in Addison, Texas, was founded just two years ago with the unique goal of focusing its curriculum on aviation training while also teaching core classes like reading, writing, math and science.

The Flight Simulator market size is projected to grow from USD 7.4 billion in 2022 to USD 10.3 billion by 2027, at a CAGR of 6.9% from 2022 to 2027.

With major U.S. air carriers facing a shortage of pilots, Alaska Airlines management agreed to a tentative deal Friday with the leadership of its pilots union that provides breakthrough improvements to the contract.

 

 

10. Are pilots out of practice? Here’s how the pandemic affected flight safety

A shortage of staff following COVID cutbacks has led pilots, ground staff and cabin crew to worry about fatigue as they attempt to keep up with rising demand. Adding to the chaos, employees are having to reacquaint themselves with official processes they haven’t used for up to two years.

 

 

11. TAAG Angola Airlines Shares Contingency Plan Following Pilot Strike Notification

African carrier TAAG Angola Airlines has shared its contingency plan after its pilots announced a strike for next week.
