4 reasons why I chose Wayman Aviation for my flight training

How to Become a Pilot

First, let me tell you a bit about myself before we dive into the subject. You might be thinking; “What the heck is a semi-international flight student? And who are you?”. Well, my dear readers, a semi-international flight student is somebody who was born in the States but never grew up here. I have the privilege of being a US Citizen, but my view on flight schools is from an international perspective. I grew up on the island of Curacao and studied abroad in the Netherlands where I got my bachelors degree in communication management, went to film school for a year, was a tour manager for a big band, and made extra money as a bartender throughout those years. I had a blast and I learned a lot. However, my dream of becoming a commercial pilot never left. So I decided to follow it after graduating. After getting my PPL I decided to switch flight training schools and come to Wayman Aviation. So, there you have it folks. A bit about me and you even learned a new word! Let’s get to the subject now: Why did I choose Wayman Aviation for my flight training?

The best of the best

There are literally thousands of flight schools in the USA, and quality during your training is really important to your future as a commercial pilot. To get that job on the right seat of a jet ASAP, soaring through the sky at 30.000ft, you want to get the best to be the best, right?

Because you want it, right?

One of the most important things you should consider when choosing a flight school is; does the school has its own maintenance, mechanics and airplanes? Why is this so important? Well, let’s say you are in the middle of your training and one of the planes you fly in breaks down or gets a malfunction. If the school has its own maintenance and mechanics it’ll get fixed right away! If it doesn’t, the chances of you not flying for a long time are high, which will cause a delay in your training, and a delay in your training equals more costs! Wayman has a fleet of 25 training aircrafts, its own mechanics and a hangar for maintenance. At Wayman you also get to decide if you want to get your licenses part 61 or part 141. (We’ll get into the differences of part 61 and part 141 in another blog). The people who handle the admissions (and you know what, me too!) will happily help you decide what program suits your needs as a pilot. They’ll help you get to your goals. The instructors at Wayman all have different backgrounds, however there are a few things they all have in common. Helping you get the best out of yourself so that you can be the best pilot you can be is not only the instructors mission, it’s what Wayman stands for too.

Price

Bang for your buck! It’s an old english saying which literally translates into “getting the most out of your money”. Let’s face it, flight school is expensive. So, naturally you want to get the most out of your training with the money you have. One of the biggest perks here is that Wayman has a wide variety of different aircraft to choose from. You can start training in the Cessna-152 for $99,- p/h, which is the least expensive way or jump right into the glass cockpit of our brand new Cessna-172 with a G1000 for $165,- p/h. It’s your budget, it’s your training. You get to choose. They’ll just help you make the right decision for your path.

Where does all my money go?

Flight training costs a small fortune, and if you invest into it, it’s natural that you want to know what happens with your money and how much you’ve spent already. Because believe me the amount of money that’ll go into your training can be a bit overwhelming at times. But no worries, I’m here to help you. You’d be surprised to know that there are still a lot of flight schools that handle money issues on paper, which can lead to mistakes being made that will cost you money or – every student pilot’s worst fear- flight schools taking advantage of you, taking all your money and not getting to your goal of becoming a pilot. At Wayman all money related issues are transparent and done via the computer. Heck, last week I even made a mistake I didn’t notice and I got some money back! So, don’t worry guys your money is safe here and you get to see exactly how much you’ve spent.

The people here

Wayman is a family owned flight school. They have been doing this for about 30 years and they love what they do. That’s why the school is growing, and fast! There is a tight community of people helping each other and sharing their knowledge and passion for flying. It’s not strange to go out and have lunch with your instructor, or get advice and tips outside of normal hours from them. They truly do their best to help you reach your goals. There are also a lot of different students from all over the world who come here to get their licenses. It’s not just Americans, there are students here from Turkey, Panama, Colombia, Venezuela, Curacao, Mexico, Trinidad and Tobago all here to get to their goal: becoming a commercial pilot. All these different cultures make for a fun environment at the school and, most importantly, it makes for very good multi-crew cooperation experience when you go flying together.
